Kandinsky x Google Arts

Online curation and digital development of a major Wassily Kandinsky exhibition for the Centre Pompidou and Google Arts & Culture, bringing the artist's work, ideas and creative process to a global audience.

Kandinsky x Google Arts — Project Lead - Online Curation

Developed in collaboration with the Kandinsky Library and the Centre Pompidou's curatorial team (internationally recognised experts on the artist) the project brought together artworks, archives and scholarly perspectives to create the largest online monograph ever built around abstract art pioneer Wassily Kandinsky.

The project also involved the high-definition digitisation of major works and thousands of archival materials, creating an unprecedented digital resource around the artist and preserving this material for future research and audiences.

Digital development extended into Play a Kandinsky, an experimental experience created with Google Arts & Culture and sound artists to explore Kandinsky's synaesthesia: his association of colours with sounds. Drawing on his theories and musical archives, machine learning was used to create a new way of experiencing Yellow-Red-Blue through sound.

Across the project, the work focused on bridging curatorial expertise, cultural heritage and digital experience; translating one of the Centre Pompidou's most significant collections into new forms of online access and interaction.
